Irene Sue Cooper Hughes

Irene Sue Cooper Hughes, 91, of Florence passed away at her home with her family by her side as she made the journey to meet our Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Mrs. Hughes was born in Williamsburg County, SC, a daughter of the late Douglas Cooper and Mittie McAllister Cooper. She was an exceptional housewife and worked for eighteen years as a supervisor at Electro Motive.Mrs. Hughes was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.She was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart as well as her family.Her passion was working in her yard tending her flowers and spending precious time with her family. Surviving are her children, Ralph (Dottie) Hughes, JoAnn (Joe) Lett and Vickie (William) Fyvie-Coleman; grandchildren, Richard Hughes and Melissa (Cameron) Phillips; great-grandchildren, Ryan Hughes and Jordan Phillips; and her siblings, Ann Hill, Hoyt Cooper, E. J. Cooper and Douglas Cooper, Jr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Hughes; grandchild, Brant Bailey; and siblings, Mary McCutcheon, Arthur Cooper, Elvin Cooper and Harry Cooper. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016, in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
