Henry Edward James, Jr.

Henry Edward James Jr., 78, of Florence, SC passed away Sunday May 3, 2025.

He was born in Florence, the son of the late Elle Mae Shumake James and Henry Edward James, Sr.

A graduate of McClenagan High School, Henry continued his education at Florence Darlington Technical College, where he received his contractor’s license. He began his career as an estimator with Lee Builders and later worked with MJ Harris, gaining invaluable experience in the construction field. Henry’s expertise and leadership were recognized when he became the Construction Superintendent at Diamond De Angelo, where he worked until his retirement in 2024.

Henry was a valued member of the Hampton Lodge and a faithful member of Effingham Church of God. His work ethic, integrity, and commitment to helping others were evident both in his professional and personal life.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Henry E. James III, three brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are his wife, Patsy Kirby James; sons, Daniel James (Dena) and Michael James (Edie); daughters, Julie Driggers, Victoria James, and Natalie Powell; twelve grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray James; and a sister, Jean Harris.

The family will receive friends, 1:00 – 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Effingham Church of God with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel. Burial will follow at Hillside Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
