Helen Kanos Mourounas

Helen Kanos Mourounas, 97, of Florence, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, after a brief stay at McLeod Hospice House.

She was born on January 15, 1929, in Greece. Helen was the daughter of the late Harry and Constandena Kanos.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Mourounas, her brother, Fred Kanos and sister, Katina Nixon.

A long time and devout member of the Greek Orthodox faith, Helen was a founding member of the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church. She was a member of the Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Evrytanian Association of America and worked tirelessly for the Greek festivals. She earned the Archangel Michael Honor Award for her lifetime of services.

Helen had an unwavering Devotion to her family. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends. Her legacy of love and faith continues through her children, Voula Carros (Connie), Dena Woodruff (Taylor), Tommy Mourounas (Jenny); her grandchildren, George Carros (Anne), Eric Carros (Susan), Elaine Snowden (Gary), George Mourounas (Alexis) and her great grandchildren, Dean, Alex, and Nicholas Carros, Grady and Smith Snowden, and Thomas Mourounas. She is also survived by her two sisters, Joanna Mathes and Maria Collis.

The funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church, 2990 South Cashua Drive, Florence, SC. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the Church on Friday.

Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

The family extends gratitudes to the compassionate caregivers of Dr. Steve Ross and McLeod Hospice House.
