Helen Creamer Brown, 86, died peacefully on October 3, 2015, in Columbia, South Carolina. A longtime resident of Florence, SC, she graduated with a B.A. in music from Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC, before returning to Florence and marrying Lynn W. Brown in 1951. They were happily married until his death in 2011. A gifted piano teacher, Helen was, for a number of years, pianist (and, later, Chairman of the Board) of the Florence Symphony Orchestra.She worked as Executive Assistant to the Director of the South Carolina Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (Palmetto Center) for 27 years, retiring in 1990. She never left music behind even there, leading the PC Combo to the delight of staff and residents alike. Helen was a member of the Florence Kiwanis Club for over 21 years. Affiliated with Central United Methodist Church, Florence, since 1935, Helen was involved on many levels with church life: Prayer Chain Coordinator, Spiritual Guidance Class teacher, Administrative Board Secretary, and member of the Evangelism Committee and the Joy Anderson Circle. She is survived by her children: son, Winfield (Nancy); daughters, Ansley, Marie, and Elaine; and grandson, Kyle. Visitation will be held from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home, Florence, SC, on Friday, October 9, 2015. A service will be held at 11:00 am at the funeral home immediately following visitation. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
