Harris Chesley Bryan went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 4, 2026. He was born to Sheppie and Edna Mae Bryan on April 24,1934 in Bladenboro, N.C. where he was raised on the family farm in the Center Road community.
After leaving the farm, he moved to Norfolk, Va to work in the shipyard. While there he decided to join the Army in 1953 and where he served in the Korean war. After the war, he returned back to the farm in Bladenboro where he met and married his wife of 67 years, Jeanette Beard Bryan. After marriage, they moved to Pamplico, SC, where started working for Dupont in Florence, SC. He would relocate to Florence to raise his family.
After retiring from Dupont after 30 years, and spending the next few years doing home improvements, he had the opportunity to start working for Honda of South Carolina as a welding instructor for their employment classes at Florence Darlington Tech College, teaching morning and evening classes for those seeking employment at Honda. After the morning classes were discontinued, he started working with a consultant team at Honda watching the manufacturing process and identifying bottle necks in production and providing solutions to eliminate those issues. Finally retiring from public work in 2002.
He was a member of College Park Baptist Church while living in Florence, where he served as a deacon and on the building and grounds committee. A lifelong avid fisherman and hunter, he loved taking his friends, children and grandchildren fishing. If he wasn’t working or fishing, he could be found out his shop working on or building something.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife, Jeanette Beard Bryan. A brother, NH Bryan. Sisters, Clara Pait, Martha Kinlaw, and Sara Currie.
Surviving are his children, Dawn (Bunn) Tyson, Chesley (Carla) Bryan, Jr., and Hope (Perry) Price; four grandchildren, Lee (Katie Beth) Harrison, Dalton (Cassie) Price, Hays (Mason) Price and Emily (Sam) Bryan; four great grandchildren, Blakely Ellis Price, Mason Harrison, Aubree Harrison, and Oliver Harrison; and a sister, Elizabeth Kelly.
The family will receive friends 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Monday April 13, 2026, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home with the service to follow at 1:00 PM in the chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow at Florence National Cemetery.
