Gwen Darwin Mcclam Sawyer

FLORENCE, SC Gwen Darwin McClam Sawyer, 60, of Florence, SC passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017. Gwen was born in Florence County, SC a daughter of the late Esley Thomas McClam and Dora Matthews Henderson. She was a member of Florence Baptist Temple. Mrs. Sawyer retired from J.C. Penney. She had a servant’s heart and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Tommy McClam. Survivors include her husband, John Larry Sawyer of Florence; a son, Chris (Jennifer) Sawyer of Florence; a daughter, Dawn (Shane) Bailey of Florence; a brother, O’Neil (Kim) McClam of Summerton; two sisters, Rachel (James) Strater of Coward and Mildred Reese of Myrtle Beach; and four grandchildren, Landon, Aubrey, Harper and Tanner. Funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Monday, May 1, 2017 at Florence Baptist Temple. Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Frank Monroe Scholarship Fund, Florence Baptist Temple, 2308 South Irby St. Florence, S.C. 29505.
