Grace Calder Lindgren

Grace Calder Lindgren, 100, of Florence, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2020. Mrs. Lindgren was born on February 6, 1920, a daughter of the late Lucy Calder and Curtis Mack Calder in Mullins, SC.She was a US Army veteran and served during World War II at Fort Sheridan, Illinois.She was a TECH 4 Physical Therapist at the Army Hospital, Mayo General Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois.This is where she met and married Vic, the love of her life. Mrs. Lindgren was a member of the Eastern Star and the V.F.W – DAV and also a member of Southside Baptist Church in Florence, SC, where she attended the Ruth Sunday School Class. Aunt Gracie, as she was affectionately called, loved to entertain, cook, read and travel.She’ll always be remembered for her uniquely decorated angel food cakes, oxtail soup and her famous sandwich loaf.She and her sisters were very close.They spent a lot of quality time together, their drinking coffee and singing hymns. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Victor A. Lindgren; brother, Joe Robert Calder; and her sisters, Margie Weldon, Alease Porter, Margaret Martin, DorothyRushing, and Curtis Mae Calder. Mrs. Lindgren is survived by her sister, Agnes Hershberger and a daughter, Betty Mae Nightengale. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 17, 2020, at Florence National Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.Due to the current COVID-19 concerns, social distancing will be observed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Quilts of Valor Program through the Myrtle Beach Shore Birds (565) at jandj.wobbleton@qovf.org or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Southland Healthcare Center for the wonderful care and love they gave to Aunt Gracie.
