GERALD KIRKLEY RAINWATER, CAPTAIN, USMC REITRED FLORENCE, SC GERALD KIRKLEY RAINWATER, CAPTAIN, USMC REITRED, 81, of Florence, SC, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2015. Captain Rainwater was born in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Jennings Earl Rainwater and Ruth Boyd Kirkley Rainwater.He had retired from the USMC as a Captain, having served in Okinawa, Oahu, Greece, Thailand, Japan and two tours of duty in Vietnam.He was a member of the Marine Corps League and a member of Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Alma Evans Rainwater; sons, Sam (Vicky) Rainwater and Don (Angie) Rainwater; step-daughter, Lisa T. (Earl) Seawell; grandchildren, Kelsea Rainwater, Skyler Rainwater, Maximo Rainwater and Brittany McCarty; great-grandchild, Cassandra Lundy; brother-in-law, Billy Webb. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Rufus Jennings “Jink” Rainwater and a sister, Hilda R. Webb. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, 6323 Liberty Chapel Road, Florence, SC 29506.
