GEORGE WILLIAM “BILLY” GRANGER Florence, SC George William “Billy” Granger, 82, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the McLeod Hospice House after a short illness. Mr. Granger was born on April 30, 1932 in Olanta, SC, the son of Hughie A. Granger and Ruth Vause Granger.He was a graduate of Elim High School in Effingham, SC.He served as an air traffic controller in the United Sates Air Force during the Korean Conflict and worked for the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA), retiring after 37 years of service as an air traffic controller.After retirement, he worked as a courier for Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp) for 17 years.He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Florence.Billy adored his family and was proud of having been blessed with a great-granddaughter in July of 2014.He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, George William “Little Bill” Granger, Jr.; brothers, David Lee Granger and Charles Ray Granger. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Janice Hyman Granger; daughter, Karen Granger (Steve) Murphy; grandson, Stephen (Ellen) Murphy; granddaughter, Briana Murphy; great-granddaughter, Ella Murphy, all of Florence; brother, Don (Catherine) Granger of Timmonsville; brother-in-law, Jamie (Susie) Hyman of Mount Pleasant; several nieces and nephews and a special canine buddy, Mr. Tee. Memorials may be made to the Grace Baptist Church Building Fund, 2400 Third Loop Road, Florence, SC 29505. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 – 8 PM Monday, February 16, 2015 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday at Grace Baptist Church.Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Pamplico.
