George Arthur Gainey, 82, of Florence, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2016. Mr. Gainey was born in Florence, SC, a son of the late John Calvin Gainey and Ida Mae Hatchell Gainey.He was the owner/operator of Florence Auto Parts, Auto Parts Supply, Crazy George’s Auto Parts and was the previous owner of Gables Restaurant.Mr. Gainey was a charter member of Unity Baptist Church as well as a former deacon, a former member of the South Florence Vocational Board and a Mason.He was active in youth recreation, was former South Florence Booster Club President, active in the USC Gamecock Club and also active with McLeod Health and Fitness. Mr. Gainey was a veteran of the US Army. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Margaret Wiebener Gainey; children, Helen Gainey (Stephen) Flounders of Travelers Rest, SC, Cynthia Gainey (Donald) Purvis of Elon, NC, John Wiley (Debra ) Gainey of Florence, SC, Mark Andrew (Janet) Gainey of Florence, SC, and Carol Gainey (Donnie) Weatherford of Darlington, SC; grandchildren, Chris Purvis, Israel Flounders, Nathanael Flounders, Benjamin Flounders, Sarah Flounders Burick, Kristina Gainey, Jordan Weatherford and Dale Weatherford; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Gainey (Jimmy) Moore of Effingham, SC and brother, Wallace (Hilda) Gainey of Columbia, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Freddie Gainey, Ray Gainey and J. C. Gainey and his sisters, Beatrice Gainey Wolfe, Dorothy Gainey Allen and Janette Gainey Wall. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016, at Unity Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
