GENE W. RAY FLORENCE, SC Gene W. Ray, 73, of Florence, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Carolinas Hospital after an illness. Mr. Ray was born in Camden, SC a son of the late Furman W. Ray and Ruby Wilson Ray.He was a US Army veteran and a talented and beloved musician. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances Ester Ray, who passed away on October 31, 2008; daughter, Patricia Ann Ray and sisters, Beatrice “Bea” Hayden and Ruth Jeror. Surviving are his sons, Gene L. Ray and Charles “Chuckie” Ray, both of Florence; daughters, Gina Ray (Wes) Grainger of Loris and Sherry Ray (Rich) Sperry of Belmont, OH; grandchildren, Madison Grace Sperry, Carrigan Raye Sperry and Weston Wade Grainger; great-grandchild, Kendall Raye Grimes; brother, Charles (Betty) Ray of Switz City, IN; brother-in-law, Robert (Martha) Brunson of Florence and many other family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, July 11, 2016 in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.
