Gene Stratton Murphy

Gene Stratton Murphy, 78, of Florence, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at McLeod Hospice House. Mr. Murphy was born in Norton, VA, a son of the late Mitchell K. “M.K.” Murphy and Ada Bruce Hartsock Murphy.He was a member of Quinby Baptist Church, the D.A.V. and Woodmen of the World.He was a former member of American Legion Post #160.Mr. Murphy retired from the US Marine Corp and had also served in the Air Force.Since 1975 he had worked with the Federal Aviation Administration.He was a loving and wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are his wife of fifty-three years, Lou Murphy; son, Michael (Michelle) Murphy of Quinby; daughter, Mary (Jay) Hinson of Cheraw; and his grandchildren, Lee Hinson of Clemsonand Kayla Hinson of Cheraw. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.Burial will be at a later date at Florence Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 11:30 am on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to the McLeod Hospice, P. O.
