Gary Howard Johnson

Gary Howard Johnson, 79, of Florence, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017. Mr. Johnson was born a son of the late John Oliver Johnson and Maggie Mae McFadyen.He was a veteran of the US Army.Mr. Johnson was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church where he attended the Wesley Bible Class and served as an usher.He retired as a District Manager from Maxway Stores after forty years of service.Mr. Johnson loved his family history and was an avid genealogist as well as a constant fixer upper who tried to repair anything that was broken. He is survived by his wife, Carlie Jo Johnson; son, Gary H. Johnson II (Kim) of Lexington; daughters, Alesia Johnson Pendleton (Michael) of Greensboro, NC and Kristen Perkins (Jeff) of Florence; seven grandchildren, Carlie Pendleton Desjardins (David), John Pendleton, Alex Johnson, William Johnson, Cameron Perkins and Joseph Perkins; brother-in-law, John Mitchum (Margaret) and a number of nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Highland Park United Methodist Church.Inurnment will follow at Florence National Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
