Gary Hill, Jr.

GARY E. HILL, JR. FLORENCE, SC GARY E. HILL, JR., 91, of Florence, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at McLeod Hospice House. Mr. Hill was born in St. George, SC a son of the late Gary E. and Cora Lee Murray Hill.He was a veteran of the US Air Force having served during World War II and was awarded The Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars; American Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal AR 600-68 and the Distinguished Unit Badge.He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Florence and a Master Mason.He retired from Southern Bell after 37 years and a member of the Pioneer Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ollie Mae Johnson Hill, who passed away June 20, 2012 and by two sisters, Lucille Veronee and Blanche Clarkin. Surviving are his son, Daniel G. Hill of Marion; loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Cary (Al) Smith of GA; brother, Johnny B. (Lou) Hill of Columbia; special friends, Marvin and Linda Slaughter of Florence, Jeanne Placon and Mary L. Velebir and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, December 21, 2012 in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.Burial will follow directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 PM prior to the service in the mausoleum.
