He was named after his paternal grandfather, the then Chicago Central Region Vice President of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Rick also pursued two avocations, music and golf; playing classical French horn with the Memphis and Charlotte Symphony Orchestras and winning regional club golf tournaments with a six hole-in-one record. He was a former member of the Country Club of South Carolina and lately the Columbia Country Club. Laura Nash Shieder (Mack) of Charleston, SC and Brandon Ellis Yonce of Florence. SC; four grandchildren: Brice Emerson Ropp. Makayla Anne Ropp, Mack Ellis Shieder III, Ella Scout Shieder; and a sister, Jane Nash Smothers (Jerry) of Memphis, TN.He was a Presbyterian.
