Frances Carolyn Gamble Lanning, 99, of Florence, SC passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018. Ms. Lanning was born a daughter of the late Robert Clyde Gamble and Josie Bartell Gamble. Carolyn grew up in Indiantown, SC and was a member of Indiantown Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Limestone College in Gaffney, SC in 1939 and joined the United States Navy in 1943 were she served as a Lieutenant in the Supply Corp. Carolyn was stationed in Hastings, NE in the Naval Ammunitions Depot and later was stationed in San Diego, CA in the Naval Hospital. She lived her adult life in Jacksonville, FL where she taught high school mathmatics in the Duval County Schools for 22 years. Carolyn enjoyed working with plants and flowers in her yard, reading, making quilts and traveling. She is survived by her three children, Joseph Dean Lanning, Charles Alan Lanning (Jackie) both of Jacksonville, Fl and Carol Ann Lanning Jeffords (Tommy) of Florence, SC; a brother, Richard A. Gamble (Juana) of Indiantown, SC; and two grandchildren, Craig Faix and Crystal Faix. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by two children, John Robert Lanning and Sara Jeanine Lanning; and two siblings, Robert Gamble and Sara Jo Freeman. Graveside service will be held 11:00 am on Monday, August 6, 2018, at Indiantown Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Indiantown, SC. Family will receive friends from 3 -5 pm on Sunday at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
