Frances Maelene Coleman

MAELENE JOHNSON COLEMAN Florence, SC Maelene Johnson Coleman, 94, passed away on Wednesday, June 12th. Mrs. Coleman was born in Saluda, SC, the eldest daughter of the late John L. and Mabel C. Johnson.She was a lifelong member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, a Sunday School Teacher for fifty years and worked with missionary organizations and the church library.Mrs. Coleman was active in her community through the Altrusa Club for more than a decade and served as President of the Club for several years. She was an avid bridge player and loved to read, but spending time with her family was her greatest joy. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Julien D. Coleman; three brothers and a sister. Surviving are her two daughters, Frances (Danny) Parker of Florence and Mary (Terry) Hill of Fairfax, VA; grandchildren, Merritt (Steven) Pace, Katherine (Mick) Winters, Eric (Jennifer) Hill, Daniel Parker, and Andrew Parker; four great- grandchildren; a sister, Alta Blackwell of St. Simons Island, GA and a brother, Bill Johnson of Columbia, SC. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2013, at Ebenezer Baptist Church.Burial will follow at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support the Ebenezer Baptist Church Library or the Building Fund, 524 South Ebenezer Road, Florence, SC29501.
