Florine Nelon Fitz Florence, SC Florine Nelon Fitz, 87, of Florence, formally of Asheville, NC passed away on Tuesday, November 27 at her residence after a battle with cancer with a long life of generosity and a great spirit. Mrs. Fitz was born in Asheville, NC on May 28, 1925, a daughter of the late George and Margie Nelon. She was a committed volunteer serving 25 years at both Carolinas Hospital (Florence General) and McLeod Regional Medical Center.She received Volunteer of the year award in 2011 and The President's Volunteer Service Award.Florine was also a member and servant of West Florence Baptist Church for 40 years.She lived as a dedicated Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She is preceded in death in addition to her parents, by her husband, David Fitz and a brother, George Nelon, Jr. She is survived by three sons, David (Brenda) Fitz, Knoxville, TN, Larry (Brenda) Fitz, Columbus, NC, and John Fitz, Florence, SC;four grandchildren;Greg (Carla) Fitz, Kelley Gregg, Merritt (Tommy) Chandler, andJessica (Frederick) Ware;four great-grandchildren;and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 1, 2012 in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.Entombment will follow directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
