EPHRAIM LOUIS CLURMAN FLORENCE, SC Ephraim Louis Clurman, lovingly referred to as “Uncle Eph”, 88, of Florence, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Mr. Clurman was born in the Bronx, New York City, NY a son of the late Abraham Clurman and Rebecca Efron Clurman.He was a very special man and by all outward appearances he was a simple man, humble and down to earth.He had a gentle soul and beautiful, innocent smile that could light up a room.Beneath his simple exterior, there was a scholarly man who was deeply passionate about the arts in all its forms.His knowledge of music, especially classical music was extraordinary.A learned man, he studied music, art, dance and history extensively for over five decades.He also studied and wrote a tome on the subject of war and peace.Uncle Eph earned a bachelor’s degree from The City University of New York and worked until retirement as a Research Librarian at a medical hospital.Uncle Eph was like a second father to his nieces and nephews and exposed them to a cornucopia of culture including the finest museums, ballets and operas New York City had to offer.He was also a sports enthusiast with baseball being one of his favorite pastimes (which translated into frequent trips to Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium especially when his beloved Mets were playing).Uncle Eph loved animals and tenderly cared for NYC’s hungry birds and squirrels. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Martha Marilyn Brand; brother, Harvey Clurman and great-nephew, Joshua Avery Brand. Surviving are his nieces and nephews, Eulalee Brand (fiance’ John), Vernon (Cindy) Brand, Isabel Brand (Curt) Cicileo and Rayner W. (Rosie) Brand; great-nieces and great-nephews, Mitchell (Monique) Brand, Pamela Brand (fiance’ Jon), Joel Clingempeel and Shaina Clingempeel, Tara Cicileo, Ray Donald Brand, Kristina Mae Brand and Christopher Vella; great-great-niece, Matilda Martha Brand. Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home is assisting the family.
