Elsie Mae Cox

Elsie Mae Hyman Cox, 96, of Effingham, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017. Mrs. Cox was born a daughter of the late Leo Washington Hyman and Buena Hyman.She was a bookkeeper and retired from Aiken & Company. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Stanley Cox, Sr.; son, Thomas Stanley Cox, Jr; and her ten siblings, Detroy Ledell Hyman, Nellie H. Harrell, Ellis H. Steele, David P. Hyman, Thomas Hyman, Rebecca H. Woods, Virginia H. Hepler, Grace Hyman, Leo “Bud” Hyman and Lewis Hyman. Mrs. Cox is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Cox of Effingham; grandchildren, Douglas A. Cox, Stephen C. Cox and Teresa Cox Young, all of Effingham; six great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Helena H. Sandy and Francis H. Hyman. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at Elim Baptist Church. Entombment will follow directed at Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center on Wednesday with viewing in the church sanctuary.
