Elizabeth “Betsy” Lyles Cannon Craven, 94, formerly of Florence, died November 30, 2016 in her new home in Mobile, Alabama.Services will be held in the Chapel at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home on Friday, December 9, 2016, at 10:00 a.m.The service will be conducted by Pastor Debra A. Armstrong.Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Craven was born in Florence on September 15, 1922 to the late Oscar D. Cannon and Sallie Mauldin Lyles.Mrs. Craven was a graduate of Florence High School. She married Francis Marion Craven in 1944.As well as a homemaker, Mrs. Craven was an active member of the Florence Chapter of the U.D.C.The little Henry Timrod School and park were started by her ancestors.She was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.At St. Paul’s, Mrs. Craven attended Sunday School and church services on a regular basis as well as participating in St. Paul’s Joy Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Craven; two brothers, Jack and Skeet Cannon; daughter, Marion Claire Craven and an infant daughter. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Craven Koger and son-in-law, Richard Glen Koger, as well as several nieces and nephews.
