Elizabeth Smoak Baroody, 86, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Pee Dee Gardens assisted living facility. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 23 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1215 Alligator Road. Visitation will be after the memorial service at 1911 Pineland Avenue in Florence. Elizabeth was born in Meggett, SC to the late Glenn David Smoak and Blanche Avant Smoak. She is survived by her husband Waddy George Baroody, Jr. M.D. and her daughter Betsy Baroody (Michael) Lassiter; sisters Hazel Collette and Juanita Baldwin; a brother David Smoak; five nephews, three nieces, and a large extended family. Elizabeth worked as a nurse for many years at Roper Hospital, MUSC, and with her husband in his private medical practice. Elizabeth was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1973. She took part in preaching the Good News about God’s Kingdom in the Florence area until her health declined. The family would like to thank Pee Dee Gardens, Dr. Margaret Hoffmeyer, and United Hospice for all their help and care.
