Dr. Edward McCravy Lee, 63, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015, loving husband of Toni Griffin Lee of 35 years and beloved father of Edward Griffin Lee (Sarah Elizabeth), Caroline McCravy Lee, and Davis Barnwell Lee. Dr. Lee was born November 28, 1951 in Florence, SC.He was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Frank Barnwell Lee, Sr. He was involved in scouting and was an Eagle Scout.He attended Florence public schools, graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1969.He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina in 1973 and the Medical University of South Carolina in 1977, where he obtained his medical degree.Dr. Lee completed an internship at the University of Mississippi Medical School in Jackson, MS and a General Surgery residency at the Greenville Memorial Hospital System in Greenville, SC.He then returned to practice in Florence, SC.Dr. Lee was board certified in General Surgery and Phlebology, and was also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His surgical specialties included Breast Disease and Oncology, Colorectal Surgery, and Varicose Vein Treatment. Dr. Lee was a well respected physician who served the Florence community for 32 years. Dr. Lee also leaves behind his brother, Dr. Frank Barnwell Lee, Jr. (Margaret) and sister, Dr. Margaret Eugenia (Genie) Lee; nieces, Elizabeth Lee, Anna Lee Rhea and Kelly Spencer; nephews, Frank “Trip” Barnwell Lee, III, Andrew Rhea, and the late William Rhea; in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Don Mattison; brother-in-law, Martin Griffin. Dr. Lee will be remembered for his positive and humorous spirit, his kindness and caring nature to his patients, fondness for animals, especially his beloved Boykin Spaniel, Gracie, and his lifetime of service to the medical community. Visitation for Dr. Lee will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Parish Hall of St. John’s Church in downtown Florence.Funeral services will follow on Monday, October 5, 2015 at 3:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Florence, SC.Private family burial service will follow.
