Edna Naomi Cox Doughty, 95, died on Friday, July 11, 2014, in Newport News Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Newport News, Virginia, after a long battle with declining health. Edna was born in Paxville, SC and moved to Newport News in 1941, with her late husband, Cornell T. Doughty.She retired from Coats and Clark after 25 years of service. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother and father, Wade and Edna Cox; two sons, Edward Marion Doughty and Cornell T. “Butch” Doughty, Jr.; a daughter, Mary Nell Branch and a brother, Wade H. Cox, Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Frances Doughty Tolleson (Thomas) and Louise Doughty Deihl, both of Newport News; nineteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; one sister, Agnes C. Kelly of Columbia, SC; three brothers, Charles Cox of Bartow, FL, Herman Cox (Maria) of Columbia, SC and Don Cox (Uldine) of Florence, SC. Funeral services were held at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Virginia on Thursday, July 17, 2014.A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
