Drexell Turner Jr.

Drexell Turner Jr., a beloved member of the Florence community, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on September 25, 1948, in Florence, South Carolina, Drexell dedicated his life to service, family, and faith.

A proud veteran, Drexell served bravely as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor's Degree, which paved the way for his career as a Plant Superintendent at Baxter Laboratory in Kingstree, SC.

Drexell was deeply committed to his faith and played an active role in his church community at Rehoboth Baptist Church. He generously dedicated his time and talents, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, worship leader, and treasurer. His love for his church family was evident in everything he did, and he found great joy in worship and fellowship.

His family was the cornerstone of his life. Drexell is survived by his daughter Rachel Turner Gainey and her husband Will; his son William Steven Driggers and Cindy Reynolds, all residing in Florence. He also leaves behind his brothers; Joe Turner and wife Karen of Hannah, and Danny Turner and wife Michele of Conway; his sisters Carol Poston and husband Joe, of Florence, and Eleveen Poston and husband Tommy of Johnsonville.

Drexell was the proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Matthew Driggers, Joseph Driggers and wife Logan, Sam Driggers, Jud Driggers, John William Gainey, and Graycen Gainey. His legacy continues through his two great-grandchildren, Lily Driggers and Lucas Driggers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Drexell Turner Sr. and Dora; his wife, Beverly Jean Turner; his daughter, Leslie Marie Turner; daughter-in-law, Megan Driggers; and sister, Jenny Mae Turner.

A funeral service in honor of Drexell’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Rehoboth Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM prior to the service in the church sanctuary. A burial with Military Honors will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests that donations be made to Rehoboth Baptist Church, 4546 Willow Creek Road, Florence, SC 29505.
