Dr. Larry Deon Rabon

February 1, 1941 — June 24, 2025

Dr. Larry Deon Rabon passed away in Vatican City, June 24, 2025.

Born in Horry County on February 1, 1941 to the late Elisha “Mac” and Rhoda Mae Spears Rabon.

His young life was rich and full of adventures that helped model him for adulthood. Larry was the spelling bee champion of Aynor Elementary as well as a straight “A” student. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings Jim and Dorothy Jean.

Larry continued his education at Aynor High School where he participated in baseball and basketball. He graduated with academic honors in 1955. He then continued his education at Clemson University. He left Clemson after three years to attend the Medical School in Charleston.

Larry spent his summers working to pay for college and Medical School at the Myrtle Beach Pavillon. He had wonderful times working, dancing, and dating.

Larry graduated from Medical School in 1967 and completed his internship in 1968. After his internship, Larry joined the USAF.

He attended flight surgery school in San Antonio, Texas and additional flight surgery school in Panama City, Florida. He was then stationed at the Air Control Defense Squadron in Key West, Florida. While he was in Key West, he provided medical services to Air Force and Naval pilots. He also flew in the second set of Naval F4’s and Air Force B12. He then completed his service in Biloxi, Mississippi.

After his two years as Captain in the Air Force, he completed his General Surgery Residency at Spartanburg General Hospital. In 1970 he returned to Charleston and completed his Residency in Urology. In 1974 he and his family moved to Florence where he practiced Urology for 51 years. Among his many accomplishments, Larry was granted a patent for a medical device he invented named the Rabon Ring.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva Rabon; daughters, Robin Rabon Siegal (Adam), Jordi Rabon Yarborough (Edward), Rheney Louise Rabon, and Shay Rabon Carl (Matt); grandchildren, Arthur Siegal, Mae Siegal, Lawrence Rabon, Leland Carl, and Eli Carl; brother, Jim Rabon and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Jean Martin.

The family will receive family and friends Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Stoudenmire - Dowling Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Central United Methodist Church.

Entombment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Connie Maxwell Children’s Ministry at 1924 Durant Dr, Florence, SC, 29501.
