Jon Harrell Docherty, Sr., MD of Florence, SC, died at the age of 80 on November 15, 2025, after an unexpected illness.
Dr. Docherty was born September 28, 1945, in Sumter, SC to Alice Gertrude Bagnal and Paul James Docherty Sr.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Harnden Cribb. He worked in Florence for 40 years as an Internal Medicine and Hospice physician. He was a member of the “Pee Dee Light Artillery “a living history group that fired black powder cannons. As an Eagle Scout, he stayed involved with a local Boy Scout Troop. He also enjoyed and was active in Freemason’s and Scottish Rites. He loved being outdoors hiking, camping, hunting and shooting sports.
He is survived by his son, J. Harrell Docherty, Jr., MD (Becky) and their children Gatlin (Sarah), Palmer and Mariah. His daughter Rebecca Docherty Latham DVM and her daughter, Grace. His brothers, Jim Docherty (Kathy) of Florence and Alton Docherty, Sr. of Columbia.
Family will receive friends on 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
Funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM on Saturday at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel with Masonic rites by Hampton Post 204 AFM.
Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at Sumter Cemetery, Sumter, SC.
