Dr. James Edward Holsenback, 78, of Florence, SC, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017. Dr. Holsenback was born in Edgefield County, SC, a son of Lula Boatwright Holsenback and the late Dewey Edward Holsenback.He was a veteran of the US Army, 2nd Lt, having served during the Berlin Crisis.Dr. Holsenback was a member of the Lutheran Faith. He graduated from Clemson University with a Chemical Engineering Degree. At age of 59, he received his Masters and Phd from University of South Carolina.He taught at Francis Marion University and Coker College.Dr. Holsenback loved teaching and his students loved him.He was an avid golfer, loved the competition and especially the fellowship.He had several holes in one and won many club championships. He could tell jokes for hours. In his younger years, he enjoyed duck and quail hunting.Dr. Holsenback loved country music, playing the guitar and singing. He wrote poetry and songs and recorded two of his songs in Nashville. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Gary Robert Caddell. Surviving are his mother, Lula B. Holsenback of Graniteville, SC; his wife, Sylvia Holsenback; sister, Donney Baker of Aiken; son, Marcus Edward Holsenback (Holly Beamon) of Wilmington, NC; daughter, Susan Holsenback Caddell of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Dustin E. Holsenback, Tommy Caddell and Matthew Caddell and a number of nieces and nephews.
