DOUGLAS MAYS SUMMERFORD FLORENCE, SC Douglas Mays Summerford, 81, of Florence, SC, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at a local healthcare facility. Doug was born in Florence, SC, a son of the late Major Summerford and Mary Lee Mays Summerford.He was a lifelong resident of Florence, and was very active in the Community. He served his Community well in many areas, but most of all he served his Lord Jesus Christ well as a faithful member of The Church at Sandhurst where he served as a Deacon and Greeter. He graduated in the Class of 1952 from McClenaghan High School where he played Varsity Football. He formally owned Summerford Sheet Metal, Inc. and his professional skills as a metal craftsman can be found on many homes and buildings around Florence.He loved the outdoors, enjoyed fishing. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Major Summerford and Tommy Summerford. Surviving are his wife of sixty years,Peggy Moore Summerford; his three children, Doug (Kay) Summerford , Robert Gary Summerford and Lisa Coleman, all of Florence; four grandchildren, Heather Rogers, Carl Barbour, Josh Summerford and Tabitha Coleman; two great-grandchildren, Cullen Rogers and Raeliegh Coker; and three sisters, Wren Hanks of Spokane, WA, Linda King of Camden, and Connie Windham of Florence. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the Church at Sandhurst. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church at Sandhurst, 1140 Third Loop Rd.,Florence, SC29501.
