Dorothea Evelyn Fore Bryant

April 30, 1919 — July 3, 2018

Dorothea Evelyn Fore Bryant died on July 3, 2018, peacefully at the Hospice House in Florence, SC. Evelyn was 99 years old, and born in Florence, SC on April 30, 1919 to Austin Homer Fore and Harriett Hensilee Parham Fore. She was the second child of ten children and the last remaining of her immediate family. Evelyn met and married Monroe Lucas Bryant in Florence on June 16, 1939 and remained married until his early death on November 30, 1971. She is survived by her four children, Thomas Monroe Bryant (Linda) of Southern Pines, NC, Billie Evelyn Landon (Mike) of Lakeland, Florida, Guery L. Bryant of Florence and Dorothea B. Sorensen of Florence. There are five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Evelyn Bryant was a stay at home mom whose total responsibilities included bringing the four children up in a spiritual and obedient lifestyle. She was, as her children put, the epitome of the old fashioned mother, putting husband, children and home first in her life. Her children all agreed they could not have had a better childhood with discipline, love and fun mixed together.Because she did not work, her house might have more than her children after school, as neighborhood kids knew she would have cupcakes, cookies or some snacks. She was involved in the PTA at school to the point the students thought she was a teacher. Her children stated it was nothing for her to show up unannounced with cupcakes for the class.Evelyn enjoyed a close relationship with her grandchildren and promoted God and family to them. Evelyn was a long time member of Mizpah Baptist Church in Florence. She enjoyed reading and writing and kept a daily journal for most of her adult life.It was not unusual to find her reading a book to her grandchildren when she was around them. She loved her community and friends and was a member of the local Rummy Card Club for ladies while living in Pine Bluff, NC.Evelyn had a great love of the ocean and started a beach week early on in her marriage. The children grew up looking forward to that week at the beach in summer. She also loved history (especially southern) and was a long time member of Ellison Capers Chapter 70 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy until her death. Her presence will be missed greatly by her family but having instilled the basic love and responsibilities to her children, she leaves a strong legacy. The funeral will be held at Mizpah Baptist Church on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family requests privacy at the home during this sad time for them. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mizpah Baptist Church, 233 N. Price Road, Florence, SC29506. Please sign the tribute wall for the family at www.stoudenmiredowling.com.
