Dora Hawthorne Hewitt

Dora Hawthorne Hewitt, 93, of Florence, died at home on April 10, 2019.Born in Abbeville, SC on May 2, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Ethel Hawthorne and the widow of Dudley James Hewitt. Survivors are three children all of Florence: David J. (Barbara) Hewitt, Nancy H. (John) Yarborough and Donald T. (Missy) Hewitt; five grandchildren, Chris(Robin) Hewitt, Teresa (Patrick) McKenzie, Charlie (Britton) Yarborough, Cody Hewitt, and Abby Hewitt and five great-grandchildren, Kaylee Hewitt, Anna Reaves and Shep Yarborough, Gabby and Leah McKenzie. In addition to her husband, who died in 1973, Dora was predeceased by sisters: Lois Hatch, Mary Emma Bowie and Agnes Latimer and brothers, William Hawthorne and Carroll Hawthorne. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 65 years, being active in the Good Samaritan and Lawson-Rains Sunday School classes and Circle No. 1.She was a member of the Wild Rose Garden Club and the VFW Auxiliary for many years. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019, at Unity Baptist Church.A visitation period will follow at the church.Private graveside service will be held earlier that day. Family suggests that any memorials be made to Hewitt Cemetery Fund, c/o John Blankenship, 2952 Pamplico Highway, Florence, SC29505.
