DONNIE ELBERT COLEMAN FLORENCE, SC DONNIE ELBERT COLEMAN, 66, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2014 at his residence after an illness. Donnie was born in Florence, a son of Lois Oakley Coleman Black and the late Ernest “Buddy” Coleman. When Donnie was 7, his mother married the late Hubert “Red” Black, and as an adult, Donnie worked with Red as a residential and commercial painter until 1994, spanning over 40 years. As a young man, he was known as an excellent painter who could do flooring, kitchen cabinets and trim. He was a true artist as far as painting. Many people would only allow Donnie to work on their homes.He went self-employed in 1995 but decided to work as an industrial paint contractor at Roche Carolina, Carolinas Hospital System and at Saunders Brothers in Santee until his disability in 2001. Donnie was a Mason and had attended several Holiness churches in the area. In addition to his mother, Donnie is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy Warren Coleman; his son, Walter Warren Coleman; one brother, Hubert Walter (Betsy) Black and a sister-in-law, Terri (Doug) Michi. In addition to his father and step-father, he is preceded in death by a brother, Dale “Slick” Coleman, who died in 2012. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 2, 2014 in the chapel of Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to your local church, the DAV, The Shriners’ Hospital for Children or to St. Jude’s Childrens’ Hospital.
