Donald “Donnie” Allen Springs, 69, of Florence, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. Mr. Springs was born in Hemingway, SC, a son of the late William Shirby Springs and Edna Eaddy Springs.He attended Palmetto Street Church of God and was a veteran of the US Navy during Vietnam.He was the coach for Little League Baseball at Greenwood Ball Park for a number of years and was a super Gamecock Fan.Mr. Springs worked with Southern Bell for thirty-two years.He loved fishing, gardening and sharing his vegetables with everyone.He loved being a grandfather and was affectionately known by his grandchildren as “Papa Donnie”. In addition to his parents, Mr. Springs is predeceased by his sister, Patsy Collins. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Stepp Springs of the home; his children, Tim (Kerri) Springs of Boiling Springs, SC, Richie Springs of Atlanta, GA, Tony (Celeste) Springs of Florence, Lesha Springs of Huntsville, AL, and Kim Martin of Florence; a number of grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Cora Martin of Florence that loved her “Pop-Pop”, a number of great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews; his brother, Bill (Madelyn) Springs of Charleston; his sisters, Sadie Grow and Suelynn Clark, both of Florence; and his faithful canine companion and sidekick, Rudy. Along with his immediate family, Donnie has a host of extended family and friends who all love and will miss him greatly. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
