Deborah June Smith Exum, 66, of Effingham, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 8, 2018. Mrs. Exum was born on June 23, 1952 in Conway, SC a daughter of the late Wade Smith and Lavinia Alford Smith.Originally from Cool Springs, SC, she moved to Florence in her teens.She attended Florence-Darlington Technical College and enjoyed her years as a registered nurse.She was employed by Carolinas Hospital, McLeod Regional Hospital and the Department of Health and Human Services where she retired in 2014.Prior to nursing, she was employed by Fleet Funding.She enjoyed writing stories and poems, was a writer of Christian fiction and loved spending time with her grandchildren.Mrs. Exum treasured her family and the special friends that God placed in her path.Of all the blessings in her life, she stated that she was most thankful for the Sunday morning in 1972 when Pastor Monroe led her to the Lord at the Florence Baptist Temple where she became a member. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Dax Exum and Andy Martin; daughter, Tara Martin-Goodman, and sister, Wanda Gail Smith. Surviving are her beloved husband, Robert Davis Exum; daughter, Rachael Exum of Effingham; grandchildren, Wesley Tyler Martin, Conner Jack Martin, Kristian Exum, Kaleb Exum, Lily Exum, and Rebecca Johnston; two great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Smith of Myrtle Beach; brother, Lt. Col. Wade Smith of Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to the House of Hope, c/o the Florence Baptist Temple, 2308 S. Irby Street, Florence, SC29505.
