Daisy Zayas McLendon

Daisy Zayas McLendon, 63, of Darlington, SC, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026.

She was born in Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Enrique Colon Zayas and Ibelisa Morales Zayas. As the daughter of an Air Force father, Daisy grew up calling many places home, both across the country and abroad. Alaska and Delaware held the most special places in her heart. She spent her final weeks in Darlington, South Carolina, surrounded by love. In Alaska, Daisy worked as a teacher’s aide – perhaps her favorite job of all. She later devoted herself to her family as a homemaker. She loved creating art, and found joy in fashion, music, movies, and animals – especially her precious dogs, Millie and Sabrina. But nothing lit Daisy up like her grandsons and her great-niece. They were her greatest joy and deepest pride – she loved them fiercely, delighted in everything they did, and made sure they never once had to wonder how much they were loved. She cherished her friends and family, but those children held her whole heart. Above all, her faith was the center of who she was. Daisy held a deep and unwavering belief in God and in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, and she prayed with all her heart.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Kenneth McLendon.

Surviving are her daughter, Andrea Zayas Laws; sister, Letisha C, Amadeo; brother, Edward Zayas; grandchildren, Wyatt Luther Laws and Jon Maddox Laws; niece, Brianna (A.J) Owens; great niece, Sofia Owens; and loving friend Del Routh.
