Colvin Cornwall Laney, 83, of Bishopville, SC, passed away on Monday January 19, 2026.
Mr. Laney was born in Sumter, the son of the late Samuel Leopold and Margaret Alice Cornwall Laney. Colvin served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. During his faithful service he was awarded the Good Conduct Award, Presidential Unit Citation with Bronze Star, National Defense Medal , Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Country Medal. He attended Clemson University which led to his career as a Textile Plant Engineer and after retirement found a successful second career in Sales at Marshall’s Marine. Colvin was a faithful member of Florence Baptist Temple. He loved his family, friends and fishing. He is a former member of Bishopville Jaycees where he served as National Director.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Barbara Laney and a daughter, Suzanne Marie Laney. Surviving are his children; Jason Laney (Sissy) of Bishopville, SC daughter, Tammie Hopkins Rickenbacker (Robert) of Holly Hill, SC; son, Joel Ray Hopkins (Jil) of Holly Hill, SC; eight grandchildren, Cooper, Grayson, Lanie, Ashby, Brett, Jack, Caroline, Trey, four great-grandchildren and a sister, Tibby Hobson (Marshall).
Services to celebrate his life will be held 1:00 pm on Wednesday January 28, 2026, in the chapel of Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home with inurnment and military honors to follow at Florence National Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
