Clayton Bryant Simmons

Clayton Bryant Simmons, 86, of Florence, SC passed away Monday, May 26, 2025.

Born in Fayetteville, NC to the late Alma Bryant Simmons and Willie Clayton Simmons. He was a graduate of Fayetteville Senior High School Class of 1956 and majored in Accounting at Worth Business School. He also received CLU Designation from American College of Life Underwriters Pennsylvania in 1970.

He worked in sales at Fidelity Mutual Life Insurance Co. from 1959-1963 and as Vice President Secretary at American Defender Life Insurance Co. He served at Mid-Way Baptist Church as business manager for the church and private school, headmaster and minister of music. He was a member of Florence Baptist Temple from 1984- 2024, where he served as an Associate Pastor.

Surviving is his wife, Barbara Thompson Simmons; daughter, Donna S. (Jim) Dugan; grandchildren, Grant Tyler (Alyssa) Upchurch, Tiffany Upchurch (Jay) Jackson; great grandchildren, Alexis Noelle, Jaxon Tyler, and Paxton James Upchurch, Eliana Faith, Elijah Knight, Eden Grace, Ezra Judah and Evelyn Hope Jackson; sister, Barbara Simmons Lawson; nephews, Slade Burton Lawson III and Christopher Bryant (Susanne) Lawson; and great-niece, Reese.

The family will receive friends 10:00- 11:00 AM Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Florence Baptist Temple with the service at 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens.
