Clarine Ott Felkel

March 12, 1925 — April 15, 2016

Clarine O. Felkel, aged 91, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, April 15, 2016 at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence. Funeral services will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church on Sunday, April 17, at 4:00 pm. Visitation will also be at Ebenezer on Sunday and will precede the funeral from 2:30 – 4:00 PM. Friends are invited to join the family in a celebration of a life well lived. Burial will follow the service in Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Clarine Felkel was married to Dal H. Felkel who predeceased her by 9 months and who was the love of her life. They would have been married 70 years on April 21ST! She is survived by one sister, Miriam Burris, of Santee – with whom she shared a very special bond. She is also survived by her daughter, Nancy Gatewood; by her son, Dal Hollis (Chip) Felkel (of Greenville); and by her daughter in law, Shonna Felkel (of Greenville); by three grandchildren – Marci Gatewood (of Florence) and Ethan and Addison Felkel (of Greenville). Additionally, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews whose lives she followed and cherished; by some dear in-laws – David and Annette Felkel (of Cameron) and S. E. Felkel (of Hanahan); and by Trish Taylor – a close family friend whom the family claims as their own. Mrs. Felkel was born on March 12, 1925, the daughter of Benjamin Tillman Ott and Florence Myers Ott. She was a graduate of Elloree High School and of Winthrop University. Although she held a teaching certificate, Mrs. Felkel worked alongside her husband in his accounting office for most of her adult life. She was active in three churches across her lifetime – First Baptist of Florence, First Baptist of Kingstree, and Ebenezer Baptist Church of Florence where she served in various capacities such as Sunday school teacher, GA leader, and WMU director. The family would like to express its appreciation to Magnolias Assisted Living of Santee, to McLeod Hospital, and to McLeod Hospice House – all of whom gave care and love to Mrs. Felkel in the past two months.
