Clarence Gene Sutherland

CLARENCE GENE SUTHERLAND FLORENCE, SC CLARENCE GENE SUTHERLAND, 91, of Florence, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016. Mr. Sutherland was born in Finney, VA, a son of the late Henry S. and Edna Mae Sutherland. He retired from Norfolk and Western/Norfolk Southern Railroad in 1985 after 44 years of service as a Telegraph Operator, Agent and Yard Master in Richlands, VA. He was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church, former member of the Kiwanis Club of Florence and the Masonic Lodge of Bluefield, VA. Surviving are his son, John “Mike” (Judy) Sutherland, CDR, USN Ret. of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Jennifer Sutherland of Everett, MA; grandson, Michael (Samantha) Sutherland of Boulder, CO; great-grandson, Henry Sutherland of Boulder, CO; step-son, William Thomas “B.T.” (Bridgette) Daniels of Pamplico and step daughters, Barbara Daniels (Sam) Harmon of Columbia, Rebecca “Becky” (Mike) Vickers of Newport, RI and Amanda Daniels (Charlie) Snedeker of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wives; Jacqueline Cobern Sutherland, Mary Ann Finklea Sutherland and Francis Finklea Sutherland; a son, William Mark Sutherland and by a brother, Jack Vernon Sutherland. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 2, 2016 in the chapel of Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
