Christina E. Barbu Ward

Christina E. Barbu Ward, 94, of Florence, passed away on June 2, 2014, at a local hospital. Mrs. Ward was born in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of the late Peter Barbu and Theresia Degrelle Barbu. She attended Erasmus Hall High School and Cortland State Normal School.While living in Camden, SC, she was active with hospital volunteer work, with the Laubach Reading Program and active with her church.She retired from Prudential Insurance Company as the office manager.Mrs. Ward was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ward is preceded in death by her brother, Walter Barbu, and her sister, Marie Zecca. Surviving are her husband, Francis J. Ward; her son, Michael (Julie) P. Ward of Charleston; her grandchildren, Maureen Shealy, Karen Howle and Matthew Ward; and her eight great-grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014, in the Chapel of the Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee.Burial will follow at Florence National Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
