Chester Michael Erwin

Mike Erwin, 84, of Florence, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025. Mike was born in Langsville, Ohio, of the late Chester Wilson Erwin and Clarice Marie (Miller) Erwin. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judy (Hanshaw) Erwin; his sons, Scott Erwin (Regie) of Terceira Island, Azores, and Kevin Erwin (Gaye) of Florence, and daughter, Missy Erwin (Joe) of Fort Mill; 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; and his brother, Don Erwin (Cathy) of Middleport, Ohio.

Mike grew up in Middleport, Ohio. He attended Middleport public schools where he played basketball and football and graduated in 1958. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy and served as a flight deck crew member aboard the USS Essex, until 1961. He then attended West Virginia University and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Forest Resources Management. Mike was a member of Florence Baptist Temple where he taught Sunday School since 1986. He was an awarded woodcarver and a member of the Pee Dee Woodcarvers.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 7, Thursday, July 31, at Stoudenmire Dowling Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at Florence Baptist Temple at 11 AM, Friday, August 1, 2025.

Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens with military honors.
