Charles Samuel Tedder, 75, of Florence, South Carolina passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 surrounded by his family at McLeod Hospice House after an extended illness. Mr. Tedder was the son of Mrs. Vera Belle Tedder of Dothan, Alabama.He served in the United States Air Force Reserve and played semi-pro football for the Dothan Colts. Mr. Tedder attended Marion Military Institute on a football scholarship where he earned his Associate Degree in Engineering. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from Auburn University.In 1966, Mr. Tedder began his career with General Electric Corporation and retired from GE after 25 years. He was a member of the General Electric ELFUN Society.In 1998 he retired from ESAB Corporation. He and his wife, Susan were the original owners of Schlotzsky’s Deli in Florence, S.C. He was a member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church. He was avid tennis player and in 1993 he and his 50 Plus tennis team won the South Carolina State Tournament.Mr. Tedder was a member of the Florence Golden “K” Kiwanis Club and was a Mason in Alabama.His family and his grandchildren were very dear to his heart. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Susan Newton Tedder; sons, Charles Michael Tedder of Raleigh, N.C.; David Patrick Tedder (Sonja McCown) of Florence; daughter, Cathy Tedder Dixon (Jay) of Chapin, S.C.; grandchildren, Austin Tedder, Kilee Tedder, Zech Tedder, Annabelle Tedder, Emma Tedder, Parker Dixon and Hunter Dixon; brother, Larry Tedder (Deloris), of Ashford, AL; sister, Elaine Codd (Philip), of Eufaula, AL and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his Mother, Vera Belle Tedder; sister, Beckie Tedder Pass; and infant sister Annette Tedder. The family will receive friends Friday, October 30, 2015 at John Calvin Presbyterian Church from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
