Charles “Red” Andrew Hoffman, Sr., 94, of Florence, SC, died on Thursday, September 8, 2016. Mr. Hoffman was born on January 4, 1922 to Charlie Hoffman and Maybelle Warr Hoffman in Darlington County, South Carolina.Red attended Florence county Public Schools.He served his country proudly as a Staff Sgt., Battery A of 263 Coast Artillery during WWII and Korean Conflict. He was the last remaining member of his company.They were a close knit group and had annual reunions. He married the love of his life, Esther Winburn Hoffman on September 6, 1942 and they celebrated almost 63 years of a committed marriage until her passing on September 1, 2005.Red spent his life as an outboard mechanic/ co-owner of R & E Boat and Motors, working on cars, motorcycles and ultimately boats.He never owned a boat/motor, but he helped many people to enjoy boating with his mechanical skills.He taught outboard motor repair at Florence Darlington TEC for over twenty years.Red was a Mason and a Shriner.He was a founding member of Faith Southern Methodist Church and a current member of Calvary Baptist Church and former Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church and a member of the Laphon Small Sunday School Class. He was a true southern gentlemen and blessed many people with his hugs and sweet smile.Daddy was a family man, he loved our mother and his children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, his parents and sisters, Annie Mae Hoffman Cain and Jeannie Hoffman Randall. He is survived by his children, Patricia Hoffman (Michael) Page, Peggy Hoffman (Eddie) Putnam, andCharles A. (Bonnie) Hoffman, Jr.; his grandchildren who called him “papa”, Dana Page (Duane) Martin, Wesley Page, Julianne Page (Angel Reyes), Stacy (Niki) Putnam, Blake (Vanessa) Putnam, Patrick Putnam (Morgan McElveen); five great-grandchildren Daniel, David, Delaney, Dylann and Hudson;nieces, Janelle Britt, Audrey Cain and Kay Timmons; nephews, Johnny and Jean Cain and Earnest Byrd; special friend, Jerry Hayes and his breakfast buddies. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at 3409 Lakeshore Drive, Florence, SC. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2016, at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
