Dr. Charles Lamar Hattaway, Sr., of Florence, passed away on his 87th birthday, Wednesday, October 11, 2017. Dr. Hattaway was born a son of the late Jack Hattaway and Rosa Pearl Pope Hattaway.He was a veteran of the US Army where he was a proud member of the Rangers, having served during the Korean Conflict. Dr. Hattaway graduated from Columbia Bible College, the Southeastern Baptist Theology Seminary and Luther Rice Seminary.He was a Southern Baptist Minister and pastored numerous South Carolina churches over his 52 year career.He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Howard, Reuben and Clayton Hattaway; and his sisters, Bertha Modena, Kathleen Duffy, and Jacquelyn Hattaway. Dr. Hattaway is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Clapp Hattaway; children, Charles Lamar Hattaway, II of Florence, Janet C. Bodiford of Bluffton, SC, Carey D. Hattaway of Bluffton and Mary Helen Watters of Daniel Island; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Lillian Carter of Macon, GA and brothers, Ray Hattaway and Larry Hattaway, both of Macon, GA. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017, in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.A committal service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017, in the Florence National Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Please sign the tribute wall for the family at www.stoudenmiredowling.com.
