Charles Ellis Gainey, 73, of Darlington, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at his residence after an illness. Mr. Gainey was born in Darlington County, a son of the late RobertLee Gainey and Margaret Parnell Gainey.He was the oldest charter member of Victory Baptist church.Mr. Gainey was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam.He was retired from Sonoco. Surviving are his wife of thirty years, Margaret Ann Weatherford Gainey; his children, Carmen (Bobby) Hodge and Suzie (Timothy) Bell, both of Hartsville, Lori Newman of Florence and Michael Haynes of Darlington; his grandchildren, Nikki (Edwin) Fleming, Joseph Bell, Joshua Newman, Jacquelynn Bell, Joseph Newman, Christopher Newman, and Madison Watkins; his great-grandchild, Aiden Fleming and his siblings, Frances (Harvell) Witherspoon, Milas Gainey, Hope (Parker) Carter and Robert Gainey. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, in the Chapel of Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.Burial will follow at Mizpah Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA23060-9979.
