Cecil Dilworth

July 28, 1920 — August 1, 2014

Cecil Dilworth, previously of Florence, SC, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014, at Agape Assisted Living in Lexington. Mr. Dilworth was born in Oconee County, SC, a son of the late Joseph V. Dilworth and Bert Hunsinger Dilworth. As a member of “Our Greatest Generation”, he served in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant, seeing action with the 749th Tank Battalion in France, Belgium and Germany during WWII. Mr. Dilworth retired in 1986 as Captain of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Florence. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Williams Dilworth, who passed away on March 28, 2014; three brothers, J. B. Dilworth, John Dilworth and Zeddie Dilworth; and his sisters, Ruby Dilworth and Meta Neville. Surviving are his children, Daniel (Laura) W. Dilworth of Columbia and Cecilia T. Dilworth of Garden City; two grandchildren, Evan (Kerri) R. Dilworth of Florence and Anna A. Dilworth, of Charleston, SC;great-grandson, Sullivan Dilworth of Florence; brothers, Robert Dilworth of Walhalla, SC and Ronnie (Nancy) Dilworth of Gastonia, SC; and sisters, Helena Dilworth and Lalla Fowler, both of Walhalla, SC, Nonnie Merritt of Hartwell, GA and Rena Hamilton of Huntsville, AL. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.Burial will follow at Florence National Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 915 Cherokee Road, Florence, SC29501.
