Carl Bernhardt Schroeppel, Jr., 88, of Florence, passedaway on February 15, 2018 at McLeod Hospice House of Florence. Born March 16, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Carl B. Schroeppel and Lillian Helen Nelson.He attended Taft High School then joined the Navy from 1950 – 1954.With his navy training in avionics, he was employed by Butler Aviation to become successful in aviation management.He worked at O’Hare Airport in Chicago and all three NYC airports.He was president of the Aircraft Electronics Association for 2 terms. Carl was a member of Bethany Bible Chapel in Conway, SC and was involved in church work wherever he attended.He belonged to the Gideons, enjoyed writing and published four books, all evangelistic in nature.He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and his desire for all in his path to know the Lord as their Savior. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carol Ruth Schroeppel; children, Richard Schroeppel, Karen (Gary) Nelson and Robert Schroeppel; grandchildren, Whitney Nelson (William) Crawford, Kristofor Carl (KC) Nelson and Gunnar Nelson and great-grandchild, Zoey Nelson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideons International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN37214-0800 or to Bethany Bible Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Bethany Bible Chapel, 1668 Four Mile Road, Conway, SC29526. Most of all, Carl loved to make others laugh.He often quipped that his gravestone would say “I told you I was sick”.
