BURTON NORRIS NeSMITH, JR. FLORENCE, SC Burton Norris NeSmith, Jr., 86, of Florence, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 in the McLeod Hospice House after an illness. Mr. NeSmith was born in Florida, a son of the late Burton Norris NeSmith, Sr. and Annie Blount NeSmith.He was a US Navy veteran and retired from CSX Railroad.He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, a member of the Kiwanis where he had served as President and Lt. Governor and served as a volunteer at McLeod Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sisters, Pattie N. Peck and Valeria NeSmith. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Anne Gardner NeSmith of Florence; son, Joseph Peter Sterling of Florida; daughters, Teresa S. Brown of Florence and Karin M. Sterling of West Columbia; grandchildren, Nikki B. Eaddy, Christopher Brown and Marie Grace Sterling; great-grandchildren, Luke O’Neal Eaddy, Karsyn Rebbeca Eaddy and Amy Nicole Eaddy; brother, Benjamin NeSmith of Safety Harbour, FL and sisters, Reba N. Purcell of Roswell, GA and Helen N. Reed of Cornelia, GA. Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 225 W. Cheves Street, Florence, SC29506. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, August 3, 2015 at Central United Methodist Church.Burial will follow in the Florence National Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
