Burnie Clayton Floyd, Jr of Nichols and North Myrtle Beach, SC passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017 in Florence, SC. He was the devoted son of the late Burnie C Floyd, Sr and Mamie Daniel Floyd of Nichols, SC and “the big brother” of Betty McDaniel Hedgpeth. He was a proud graduate of and athlete for the Lake View Gators where he met the true love of his life. Burnie and Nina Faye Herring blissfully became one on June 16, 1951. He often stated that he would not be overly impressed with angels when he went to heaven because he had lived with one all his married life. The marriage was blessed with a son Charles Daniel Floyd and a daughter Debra Faye Floyd. Danny’s death in 2002 was the greatest tragedy of their lives. Burnie is survived by his wife, Faye; his daughter, Deb Floyd Strickland; son-in-law, Maxie W Strickland; granddaughter, Amanda Strickland Allen; grandson-in-law, Harry S Allen IV; great-granddaughter, Olivia Claire Allen of Florence, SC; granddaughter, Dr. Kelsey Shea Strickland of Nichols and special cousin, Betty McDaniel Hedgpeth and her husband, Carey of Greer, SC. Burnie was an independent businessman, tobacco auctioneer, real estate broker, and dedicated member of the Nichols United Methodist Church, the NUMC Choir, and a variety of charitable organizations. Graveside services officiated by Rev. Eddie Collier will be held at the Jones-Nichols Cemetery, Nichols, SC, at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 23, 2017.The family will receive friends graveside following the service. Memorials may be made to the Nichols United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or Building Fund to assist with overcoming the devastation of Hurricane Matthew.
