Betty was born the daughter of the late Kathleen Owens Johnson and James Franklin Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra “Sanky” McCormick. Despite her many years of struggle with illness, Betty never lost her positive outlook nor her faith in God.She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and so much more to so many others. She found joy in giving to others, crafts, flowers and most of all, being with friends and family.Apart from her time as a Clerk with the South Carolina Highway Patrol and a medical transcriptionist, Betty spent her last thirty years running a successful business with her beloved husband. In her limited spare time, she worked closely with local government to preserve the history and quality of life in the Timrod Park neighborhood. This partnership with the City of Florence led to many life-long friendships with the local officials that Betty cherished.Betty did not fear leaving this earth because of her personal relationship with Christ.Betty wanted nothing more in life than to have a positive impact on those around her and for them to know Christ as she did. She is survived by her devoted husband, Sheldon Gene Shelley; daughter Candice Leiter (Laszlo) of Florence; son, Sheldon Gene “Ashley” Shelley, II (Marshall) of Florence; grandchildren, Szofia Leiter, McKenzie Shelley and Aidan Shelley; brothers, Mitchell Johnson (Joyce Ann) of Aynor, Jamie Johnson (Tonya) of Nichols; and sisters, Kathy Fincannon (Byron) of Seneca, Wanda Bullock of Nichols and Miriam Dellinger (Joey) of Myrtle Beach, and three very special friends, Sonya Floyd (Dan), Linda Watkins (Roy) and Pamm Hoeben (Ray).
